GS&S provides geotechnical investigations for large and small infrastructure projects. The scope of the project will determine the complexity of the investigation. Investigations are planned so that critical ground and groundwater information required for economic design is obtained.
Products of geotechnical investigations may be Geotechnical Data Reports and Geotechnical Baseline Reports. On geotechnical-intensive projects, these documents are incorporated into the Contract Documents and provide contractual definitions with respect to ground conditions and behavior. The GBR thus positions the project Owner with respect to risk allocation. A conservative GBR may overstate risk thus leading to high dollar bids whereas a GBR that understates or misidentifies risk may lead to low dollar bids with high probability of claims. GS&S will study the Contract GDR and write an independent GBR which will identify the risk allocation the Owner has selected. The ultimate goal is a Builder that understands the project risk and is able to develop their bid with full understanding of their own risk allocation.
